Enjoy the Garden, but Stay Alert

I was out driving today and noticed 3 different slogans on standard vehicle registration plates. Two of them made me giggle.

Apparently our state is “The Place To Be”. But evidently we must also “Stay Alert, [to] Stay Alive”. I’m not sure our state really is the place to be if we have to stay alert to stay alive!

Ah, but all must be well, as ours is also the lovely “Garden State”.

I tried to remember other slogans that have been used on our vehicles’ registration plates over the years.

I recalled that we were “The Education State” and that we were “On The Move”.

Well, I won’t (yet) get on my hobby horse about the state of our education system, but the people of our state during the Covid years certainly were on the move - escaping to other states!

I wonder what the purpose of the slogans is. Most people I’ve spoken to regarding them have cringed in embarrassment about them. I see that some people have paid to have their own slogan printed on their plates, very often to reflect their political views.

Anyway, let’s hope that we are On The Move to improving the State of our Education. In the meantime there are certainly many beautiful Gardens in the state that are The Place(s) To Be…..and I guess it is always wise to Stay Alert.
